great kanji app for beginners

This is a great application for beginners. Simple intuitive interface makes it easy to remember the characters along with some key vocabulary. I have been studying Japanese for a while and this application is a bit too easy at times. I wish there were different difficulty levels available, but other than that Lima Sky did an excellent job

Great Japanese App!

I LOVE your Kanji App!. Very clean design, very well made. The best part is that you have a chance to guess the Kanji before clicking on the answer - nicely done! Also, thank you for including other Kanji combinations. And thank you for NOT including Romaji. I am currently studying Japanese and it is nice having the pronunciations in Hiragana/Katakana. Also, you really paid attention to details, like correctly formatting the Kanji compounds followed by Hiragana with a "." Unlike the above 2 posters, I thought this was priced very well given the value I have extracted from it. Please make more Japanese Apps: I will gladly pay more $$ for well done flash cards ~ such a great use of idle time on your iPhone.

Crazy

Great product, use it all the time on the train in Tokyo. Really like the simplicity and ease of use. Many thanks.

Almost exactly what I needed

Ive lived a majority of my life in Japan but living outside the country has taken its toll. This application helps me replenish my Kanji proficiency, but the one thing that it could use is to show examples of the Kanjis use in conjunction with other Kanji, instead of just the Kanji on its own. Some sort of identifying index would be really nice too in case you come accross a Kanji in real life that you cant read. Overall though, its a helpful program.

Brilliant, exactly what I was looking for

I was looking for a flashcard app so I could maybe type some kanji on to it so I could study, so I was hugely pleased and surprised when I found this. I tried it out immediately and its fantastic. Would definitely recommend it. But, Ive just got a couple niggles. Certainly nothing that would stop me from buying it in the first place had I known, but I thought they might be something to address. Im learning Japanese out of the Genki series of books, so I had to go through the rather expansive LJPT lists to find the few I needed, which took a while but addmittedly this app if for people taking the LJPT tests. My other concern is that theyre only one way - Itd be very useful if they had an option to display the English meaning and you had to flip to see the kanji. Other than that its a fantastic app, worth the 5 stars for sure.

Nice App - but could be even better

I like the clean look of the application, the uncluttered screen etc. What would make it perfect is if there was a mode where, rather than seeing the kanji and tapping to reveal readings/meaning, you saw the reading and meaning and tapped to reveal the kanji.

Incomplete and MAJOR flaw... Why does it show old kanji I marked already?!

This COULD be a great flashcard program. However... its not finished! Much of the Kanji data drops off after you get past the first beginning sections, and even worse, the option to mark which you kanji you know... does NOTHING! Why even bother marking kanji you KNOW that you know, if it is just going to show up on the list again and make you have to flip through 600 cards again? Come on Lima... you really can do better than this. Start finishing your programs ok? Please, it could be so much better if time was taken to just polish the software. Seriously FINISH YOUR PRODUCTS BEFORE RELEASING PLEASE! If I mark that I know the kanji I shouldnt be seeing that kanji show up yet again and having to flip through another 600 pages of what I know. Very basic option here Lima... please.

awsome kanji appppp

im in japanese 2 and im learning kanji and it has every character i need for that class!!!! its great!!!! and i only got it for .99 cents!!!!!! great job

Decent for $0.99

Gets the job done, however.... It needs to be easier to check off cards you already know and never see them again. A voice recording to help sound out the words would be good or romanji. I see the value in not displaying romanji by default, but would like the option of turning it on when I need the helping hand. Perhaps a second tap would give me the romanji for when I get really stuck.

Great to use, easy to remember

I love using this app. I am learning Japanese and this helps me study the kanji I need. Its amazing how fast I memorized my first few kanji!

Sukz a lot

This app dont go in depth on teaching kanji. And the interface is difficult to use. Kanji is not arranged in grade level.

Great app,

currently living and learning in Japan right now, this is extremely helpful. Would like a better way to organize between kanji I already know and those Im learning. The check boxes seem like they have no purpose other than showing what you already know. Also, it takes a little too long to get through the 700 something and 1000 something in the level 2 and 1 lists. If that and the organizing were improved, I would find 5 stars in this app. Otherwise, I believe this app to be the best one on my Touch.

良い

此れアッパ良いです。This app is good. I went to japan for two years and learned kanji a little. When I got this app I imediatly saw results. がんあって!

Its Just a List

Im really dedicated to learning Japanese, and I really dont have time to come up with a study method to learn all of the kanji. I dont mean to compare, but the other kanji apps have quizzes with options, kindof like multiple choices, and they get tricky. So, if this app had more than a list and a flashcard thing, itd be more worth than 99 cents. I feel bad for wasting my money on this, so, yeah. Thanks!

revised review

as stated, after months of using this app, i had to revise from 3 to 5 stars. the sheer number of hours ive used this app demanded it. the beauty of this app is its simplicity. it exactly replaced my handmade flashcards with no fuss and fanfare. and ive come to realize...thats perfect..for me. yes there are many kanji learning apps out there with fancy bells and whistles, but this app calls on you to learn the material, not for it to teach it to you.i can and do learn that way. so developer, there hasnt been any updates recently but please know that you have an appreciative kanji learner here in me. great points - preset JLPT lists hoped for improvements - preset joyou kanji lists - the ability to merge on deck into another i study in batches and then adding these to the master list is tedious - a way to backup or export lists again, after months of use, my master list has over 600 cards. if something were to happen to my ipod, that would be lost,. so wifi export as an xls or even txt file would be great - the ability to rearrange lists once created - in the search function when adding new cards, one can search by manually imputing something or searching the preset JLPT lists. being able to search from already created lists would be really really helpful! thanks

Ok but...

U need to have voice flash cards...I got a free version of a diff. app. Waste of Money!

Great app

I am learning Japanese and this helps but could you please include the readings in english as well as kana

Not worth it

No guesstimate of new JLPT levels. Only one marker to know kanji or not. No clever or helpful mnemonics. No stats on kanji not asked in n days, last answer wrong, wrong/right, confusion pairs ...

Add these features please!

. Feature to merge users created files to have incremental pool of characters. . Number the Kanjis by their JPLT order. . Search the Kanji by its JPLT ordered number, and by Kanas. . Add the 19 untested Joyo: 1927 to 1945. . The files created on IPod can be shared on the IPad 2.

Great, but needs update

This is a great tool to study for the JLPT, but the JLPT now has 5 levels. They have recently added N5. They need to update the app accordingly.
